The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) have announced the "Defense Tech Startup Fostering Plan" as a follow-up to the National Startup Era Strategy Meeting (January 30, 2026), presided over by the President. In conjunction with this, to ensure the effective implementation of the policy, a policy cooperation framework has been established for the first time among relevant agencies under MSS and DAPA. Han Seong-sook, Minister of SMEs and Startups, emphasized, "Historically, the defense industry has contributed to national security and economic growth by meeting military requirements. Now is the time to lay the foundation for the growth of 'Defense Tech Unicorns' that can lead military demands and compete on the global stage." She added, "We will actively drive a transition from a defense ecosystem centered on manufacturing and large corporations to one where tech-startups also thrive."
